Apartment buildings proposed for vacant Riverview lot
Developers offer new plan for town houses on Hillsborough Road lot where apartments were voted down last year

The Town of Riverview is moving forward with a developer’s proposal to build three six-storey apartment buildings on the empty lot at the corner of Pine Glen and Whitepine roads.
Council heard the proposal at Monday’s committee of the whole meeting. Mayor Andrew LeBlanc said council approved the timeline of rezoning the property. A public notice will be posted on the town’s website and property owners within 100 metres will receive written notification of the plan. Council will vote on the matter Feb. 12. It would then receive a public presentation on March 11 and a public hearing on April 8, where people will have an opportunity to express their objections.
The property at the corner of Pine Glen and Whitepine was home to the town’s public works garage for many years, until public works moved to a new building and the old one was demolished. The new proposal to rezone the property to Commercial Mix for the construction of three six-storey buildings that would have a total of 375 living units. It would have 225 surface parking spots and 303 underground parking spaces. The lot is surrounded by other homes, so there would be a buffer of existing trees, a berm and fencing.
The proposed apartment complex is a short distance from the Riverview business district that has a variety of services including Sobeys, NB Liquor, Dollarama, Canadian Tire and Home Hardware. A new Kent Building Supplies is now under construction in the same area.
Developers switch from apartments to townhouses
Mayor LeBlanc said is also moving ahead with a rezoning of a property on Hillsborough Road for proposed row houses. LeBlanc said this is the same property where a developer proposed apartments last year, and was turned down by council after residents objected. He said this is the same property but a much different proposal, so council voted to approve the timeline, which includes a date for a public hearing.
The proposal shown to council is for town houses totaling 24 units plus 44 parking spaces on a 2.45-acrelot. The proposal includes a landscaping buffer and trees to separate it from existing homes. Homeowners within 100 metres will receive written notification and a public hearing will be held March 25 to hear objections.
