CD review
Ken Stringfellow adds to an already impressive musical resume (which includes work with his group The Posies, REM) with his new band The Disciplines. Stringfellow teamed up with former members of Norwegian band Briskeby and concocted a record chalk full of irresistible garage rock and pop. Yours For The Taking sets the tone of the record with a decidedly Hives-inspired piece of rock before the group moves into similar territory on Get It Right. Given Stringfellow’s pop background, it’s only natural for some of these pop moments to shine through here, as heard on There’s A Law and Shadow Of Your Doubt. Smoking Kills is a collection of catchy and melodic songs that serve a direct hit on the pop world. Fans of power pop could be the primary targets for the group but it wouldn’t surprise me if they could bring the odd garage rock fan on board with these songs as well.
Smoking Kills will be officially released on April 28 although the Yours For The Taking single can be purchased online at www.secondmotionrecords.com.
