Friendly service abounds at Main Street Tap and Grill

The food stacks up well, too.

The Main Street Tap and Grill is located at 644 Main Street in Moncton "" the former location of the Lone Star Texas Grill. It offers up a wide variety of typical pub fare for both lunch and supper. For more information, call 384-7772.
Husky E's verdict:
The first thing you notice when you walk into Main Street Tap and Grill is how spacious the dining room is.
It's wide open, tables are well separated from each other "" Husky E likes his space, of course "" and also features a nice, modern decor. On our visit, during a weekday over lunch, it was noticeably not busy, which made for a comfortable meal.
This being our first trip to Main Street Tap and Grill, we took our time pondering over a menu that features a variety of options at reasonable prices, including a limited lunch menu. In the end, I opted for the Great North burger ($9.99).
Whenever a new restaurant opens in town, this Husky is always eager to give their burger a go. Can't you learn a lot about a place by tasting their burger and seeing how it stacks up against the competition?
The most pleasant part of our meal was the service. Our waitress was efficient, on the ball with several trips to our table and everything was delivered with a smile. That would come in handy in no time.
We both ordered a glass of Sprite and it only took one sip to know something was wrong. The pop was obviously very flat and both Heavy T and myself realized that instantly. Not wanting to make a big situation out of something minor, we didn't notify our waitress, as the pop was drinkable. But just barely.
Not a minute later, our waitress appeared at our table and asked us if our Sprite was flat and told us there was a temporary problem with the restaurant's soft drinks. She took the drinks off our bill and gave us water.
The Great North burger came with a choice of French fries or salad, and obviously, I went for fries. The burger came topped with cheddar cheese, two strips of crispy bacon and grilled onions, along with lettuce and tomatoes on a tasty bun.
The burger made for a very solid meal, it featured a large and juicy patty and the melted cheese, bacon and onions helped formed one of the better burgers I've tasted around town. The French fries that came with it were crispy and good, pretty much what you would expect from any type of pub restaurant. I would have liked a larger serving of fries, but wouldn't we all?
The only real hiccup in the meal was our drinks. And just as we finished our last few bites, our waitress appeared again to let us know the pop problem had been fixed and offered us a free drink on the house. As we were nearly finished our meals, we declined, but the offer was much appreciated.
All in all, I enjoyed our visit to Main Street Tap and Grill. The service was impressive, the meal was solid and I'll be back again.
I give it an 8 out of 10.
Heavy T's verdict:
There's nothing like a new restaurant to get this Fat Guy excited.
There's so much hope and promise when a new restaurant opens in town and the Main Street Tap and Grill for the most part lives up to expectations.
Husky already mentioned the Sprite debacle, but to be fair, I kind of liked the flat, off-tasting Sprite. It was almost like a new drink altogether. That being said, I can simply echo what Husky said in that the waitress seemed quite friendly and accommodating and she wasn't just mailing it in during her work day, which is very important for a new restaurant.
I noticed there was a pretty good selection on the menu, but in the end I opted to order the nachos ($9.99). It seemed only logical to also add chicken ($2.39), to really round out the meal.
The service was quick and we were gorging in no time. The nachos came with the usual "" salsa, sour cream, cheese and banana peppers. However, caramelized onions are also a part of the meal and I'm not quite sure it was the best union. I'm a big onion fan, but something about the texture of the onions was just a bit off "" they were a bit slimy.
Regardless, the meal was solid and there was a fair serving of chicken too. Nothing boils my blood worse than paying an extra couple bucks for something that turns out to be unsubstantial. A Fat Guy likes to be full and I can say this meal did it for me. I've tried my share of chicken nachos in my days and this one certainly wasn't the best, but it definitely held its own.
A little bit more salsa and sour cream would be welcome, but then again, it seems most chicken nachos just give the usual small dish full of these items. Overall though the chips were crisp and tasty and the toppings were piled on adequately.
I rate the Main Street Tap and Grill an 8 out of 10.
