A Natural Fit for New Brunswick

Warming up to an environmentally friendly energy source.

Southern New Brunswick is on the frontlines of taking green matters into their own hands by utilizing and converting to natural gas.

"We continue to make inroads within New Brunswick and foresee substantial expansion to our institutional, commercial, industrial and residential customer base (of 9,700 as of 31 December, 2007)", says Enbridge Gas New Brunswick General Manager, Dave Charleson.

"In fact," enthused Charleson, speaking from his Fredericton office, "our future plans through the year 2012 has a projected growth of 13,000 additional customers."

"Of course meeting this objective will grow the labour force by at least 200 additional industry-wide jobs. This will compliment our current skilled jobs group of 400." Enbridge Gas NB's 20-year renewable franchise agreement with the province reached in 1999 became fully operational in 2001.

It's a part of the Enbridge group of companies including Enbridge Gas Distribution, which serves 1.8 million customers. Companies operating under the Enbridge umbrella are supported by a strong record of service, experience and expertise.

Enbridge Gas NB operates as a limited partnership between Enbridge Inc. and several New Brunswick investors. Its mandate is to provide premium service to customers while maintaining priority concern for safety and minimizing environmental impact. It is regulated by the Board of Commissioners of the Energy Utilities Board of New Brunswick.

"New Brunswickers, like the rest of Canada and indeed the world are looking at not only the economic savings factor but the simple fundamental fact of ownership of their individual environmental footprints," says Charleson. "Natural gas is the cleanest burning fossil fuel. It does not harm the ozone layer, create radioactive waste or result in harmful spills." Charleson also pointed out "other heat sources leave ashes and odours whereas natural gas leaves no mess. It creates less carbon dioxide oxides of nitrogen and sulfur dioxide than oil, coal, or electricity generated from fossil fuels."

Enbridge Gas NB currently owns and operates 600 km of natural gas pipelines with an additional 300 km by the year 2012.

They supply natural gas service to nine municipalities in Southern New Brunswick, Saint John: Moncton, Fredericton, Oromocto, Dieppe, Riverview, St. George, St. Stephen and Sackville.

The Enbridge Gas NB head office is located in Fredericton. For additional information visit the web site at www.naturalgasnb.com.
