The city of Fredericton aims to bring you the most free music concerts offered anywhere, all summer long. Throughout July and August, enjoy free concerts at the Lighthouse Adventure Centre Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. all summer long. Or watch movies with the Under The Stars with the Classic Movie Night Series, held Sundays at 9 p.m. until September for free in Barracks Square on Carleton Street.

Each Thursday visitors and locals enjoy a wide display of classic and muscle cars in Legion Parking Lot. Call 450 9074 for more information.

Throughout July and August, free outdoor summer concerts will be held in the Officer's Square Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. During the summer months there will be more free concerts at the Guardhouse on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. The Amphitheatre will have free concerts to follow on Wednesday nights at 7:30 p.m.

And throughout July and August on Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. check out free musical performances in the officer's square. And finally there will be free Friday night concerts which will be held at the Lighthouse Adventure Centre.

Listen to the Storyteller Series on Wednesdays at 3 p.m. in the Barracks Square, magical yarns spun by our master storytellers. Held until the end of August.

Play Croquet all summer long, free in Barrack's Square. Matches take place at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in July and August.

See live harness racing until September with horses and competitors from across the Maritimes at the Fredericton Raceway and exhibition grounds. Please call 458-8819 for scheduling information or visit www.nbhorseracing.ca.

Check out downtown Fredericton with their annual Culture Crawl. Visit art galleries, studios and shops. Tours and demonstrations are held as well as exhibits. Visit www.fredericton.ca or City Hall for a route map and details.

See the Changing of the Guard seven days a week at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Watch as period-dressed guards re-enact a drill ceremony to the beat of a piper and drummer.

On June 28 participate in the Annual Heel 'n Wheel-a-Thon, beginning at the Riverfront Walking Trail and ending at the Small Craft Aquatic Centre, this annual walk/run is a fundraiser for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. Whether participants want to walk, run, bike, or rollerblade, anything goes at this annual event.

June 29 at 7:30 p.m. see Shakespeare or Bard in the Barracks: As you Like it, one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies. Tickets are $12; $8 for students, and available at the door or in advance at River Valley Crafts. See www.nbacts.com for more information.

Canada Day Block Party celebrate Canada's birthday at the nation's biggest neighbourhood block party. A full day of fun kicks off at noon on The Green, along Pointe-Sainte Anne Boulevard and in Officers' Square with activities for the whole family, entertainment on two stages, great food on site, the Canada Day Parade, and fireworks at dusk.

Guided Heritage Walking Tours will begin July 1. Tours are one hour long and depart from City Hall. Costumed guides will entertain you with local history and folklore as they take you on a free walking tour by some of downtown Fredericton's finest sites.

Guided Bike Tours begin on July 1 as well. Hop on a bike and explore downtown Fredericton's River Side Trails, with an experienced guide, cycle through a rich tapestry of natural beauty and historic landmarks. Discover a loyalist cemetery and grand Victorian architecture.

Beginning July 1, check out outdoor summer theatre in the Officers' Square with The Calithumpians. Performances Monday through Friday at 12:15 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Expect humorous and historical fare for which the company is famous.

The Frex presents Floodstock 2008 with Julian Austin, Brent Rickard, The Troubardours and more beginning at 2 p.m. at the Raceway Fields. Visit www.frex.ca for more information. Event is being held to raise money for flood relief.

July 23 to August 1 see NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival with a showcase of new and innovative theatre. Exciting street theatre performed downtown will be accompanied nightly by dynamic and topical mainstage productions.

The New Brunswick Highland Games and Scottish Festival will be held July 27 to July 29 at Old Government House. Experience Scottish culture through music, games, food and drink on the beautiful grounds of the historic Old Government House. A fun-filled family weekend packed with bagpipes, drums, fiddles, Celtic music, highland dance, Gaelic language and of course the best tasting Scottish treats! New Brunswick Gospel Music Festival from August 8 to August 10, since 1983 the New Brunswick Gospel Music Festival has brought live gospel music to the masses. Check it out.

August 15, Acadian Day celebrations begin in Fredericton, celebrate Acadian culture. Check out www.centre-sainte-anne.nb.ca or call 457-9132. Events will be taking place at various locations throughout the community.

The New Brunswick Fine Craft Festival August 29 to August 31 in Officers' Square, see fine crafts over the Labour Day weekend. In the heart of downtown Fredericton, juried members of the New Brunswick Crafts Council offer the best in pottery, textiles, glass, wood, metal and much more.

The Fredericton Exhibition centre holds their annual Frex 2008 from August 21 to September 6. Please visit www.frex.ca for more information on exhibitors and events. The event began 175 years ago, there are gentle rides for the little ones and not-so-gentle rides for those who like big thrills! The event has the biggest draft horse show and the biggest agricultural exhibition in the province. There's also a provincial cattle show, a petting zoo, daily stage shows, handicrafts and home economics judging and harness racing throughout the week.

Dragon Boat Festival, Sunday, September 7, The McInnis Cooper Dragon Boat Festival is a fundraising event that will benefit the development and growth of Amateur Sport in New Brunswick through KidSport program and amateur athletes. The event is co-organized by Sport NB and the Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic. All are welcome.

Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, September 9 to September 14, the streets come alive for Atlantic Canada's largest celebrations of jazz, blues and world music. with over 350 award-winning artists in 125 free and ticketed performances on two dozen stages. Expect gritty acoustic and electric blues, traditional and progressive jazz, rock, soul, Cajun/Zydeco and more. Until August 22, Moncton's only year-round dinner theatre venue, McSweeney Co. Dinner Theatre presents Class of '88 Rocks On: This is Your Life. Find out whatever happened to your high school crush or that bully! Dinner Theatre performance times are at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $33.95 plus applicable taxes and include a four course meal. The McSweeney Co. The Moncton Naturalists Club has already begun hosting bird watching fieldtrip and workshops. The Moncton Mets, New Brunswick's Senior Baseball League will play throughout the summer months at Kiwanis Park located just off Mountain Rd. and Butler St. Individual game tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and kids under 12 get in free. From June 18 to June 21, the city of Edmunston hosts their nationally renowned Jazz and Blues festival, though a bit of a drive, it's definitely worth it. From June 25 to June 29, it's the second annual Atlanticade Motorcycle Festival; funds will be raised for the Children's Wish foundation. The Capitol Theatre brings live musical performance to downtown Moncton all summer long. In June see Elvis rock as part of the Atlanticade Motorcycle Festival on June 27 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a concert with the Metro Moncton School of Music on June 28 at 1 p.m.

From June 27 to June 29, check out the Moncton Multicultural Festival Rendez-vous 2008. Events will be throughout the Greater Moncton Area featuring rising music groups and exceptional foods from across the globe.

The Town of Riverview will be holding their annual Sunfest from June 28 to July 3. This four day event promises entertainment, crafts, and food. There will be a bike/motorcycle rodeo, skateboarding competition, yard sales, and outdoor movies. Cross the bridge and check it out. On Canada Day, festivities will be held from 12 to 6 p.m. in Caseley Park with entertainment, games, food, giant Birthday Cake followed by fireworks at 10 p.m.

July 1, Celebrate Canada Day! There will be fireworks in Shediac and Moncton/Dieppe/Riverview along the waterfront; Cap-Pele promises to celebrate from 3 p.m. until midnight with music, face, painting and a dance; Sackville will host events beginning at 1 p.m. at Bandstand Park with BBQ, tennis, science demonstrations and a free live concert on Bridge Street with the Cottars; the city of Moncton will have events taking place throughout the day downtown and in Centennial Park. From July 2 to July 6, Shediac hosts their 59th annual edition of the Shediac lobster Festival. The festival first opened in 1949 and has since drawn visitors from all over the world. Once again, there will be Acadian music, and lobster eating contests. Try to break up and eat three lobsters with your bare hands as fast as you can. There will also be a costume parade for the kids on Sunday, a fair and exhibition tents and of course beer gardens. Moncton's tenth annual Outdoor Flea Market held at Magnetic Hill will be held from July 3 to July 6. Over 400 vendors will be participating this year. Parking is $3 for the entire day, a food court is on site, for more information please visit www.magnetic-hill-flea-market.com.

From July 5 to July 27, the town of Sackville will be hosting their annual Festival by the Marsh, south-eastern New Brunswick's summer arts festival with music, fine arts, theatre productions and literature. Theatre productions include an outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet, workshops and shows throughout the month for a variety of ages and interests. Support the YWCA during the month of July with their annual Metro Moncton Garden Tour, the day will inspire emerging gardeners and professionals who will be invited to walk in some of Metro Moncton's most notable gardens. From July 25 to July 27, Dorchester hosts their annual Sandpiper Festival. The festival will also feature artists, a people's choice photo exhibit, Rubber duck race, historical tours, chowder, egg hunt, artisans who will have items on sale in the village square, live music, and of course bird watching tours. In August, Memramcook will host antique cars in their 11th annual Show and Shine festival. No admission to attend.

August 6, Celebrate New Brunswick! Held every year in August, this year's Turner's Victoria Park Arts and Craft fair will be held August 8 to August 10. There's pottery, painting, jewellery, woodworking, stained glass, and fabric. The list goes on and all is hand-made. Enjoy the music; food will be available on site.

The Capitol Theatre presents Vibes and Vices on August 16 at 8 p.m., a jazz quintet who will perform pieces from their CD titled I'm Old Fashioned. Visit the box office for tickets.

Held every August, check out The Atlantic Seafood Festival in Moncton this month, dates will be announced closer to the festival. The festival celebrates seafood preparations with style, check out the Seafood Chowder competition or the food demos by celebrity chefs. There will also be Wine Tasting, Oyster Shucking, and Seafood competitions along with musical entertainment and street performers. Visit www.atlanticseafoodfestial.com.

From September 7 to September 9, Sussex hosts their annual Atlantic International Balloon Fiesta. This hot-air balloon festival is the only one of its kind in the Maritimes. Balloons launch twice each day, weather permitting. Other events include a craft fair, live music at the bandstand, and a car show on Sunday, midway.

Beginning September 6 to September 14, Dieppe will host their annual Kite Festival. The festival runs for four days and will bring together kite enthusiasts from around the world. There will also be live musical concerts throughout the festival.

[SAINT JOHN area]

Throughout the summer Saint John has two dinner theatre companies who put on great shows. There's The Phoenix Dinner Theatre dinner and show at $44.95 per person. A summer noon concert series will be held at the Church of St. Andrew and St. David on Germain Street every Wednesday at 12:15. Admission is free, though a free will offering will be accepted.

The KV Players have a theatre this summer in Saint John with productions throughout the season. For more information please call the KV Players staff at either 849-5303 or 847-1867. Most plays start at 8 p.m. and tickets range from $10-$12.

This summer, help The City of Saint John pick an Idol. Every Wednesday come down and watch the region's best and brightest vie for the title of Saint John Idol! Styled after the famed American and Canadian Idols, come on down to the Market Square early to join the thousands upon thousands who gather to cheer and jeer local talent! June 21 is National Aboriginal Day with events taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the New Brunswick Museum. Learn the traditional technique of porcupine quillwork and other traditional art. June 30, this weekend festival officially kicks off summer! With live entertainment on the Boardwalk stage and activities to promote our Country's birthday, Canada Day Countdown sets the stage for our Boardwalk summer lineup! For more information please visit www.canadadaycountdown.ca.

At 7 p.m. on June 30 in the Saint John Public Gardens the Shakespeare Society of Saint John presents scenes from The Tempest. Featuring the Festival-by-the-Marsh Performing Troupe. A free-will offering will be accepted. Please call 657-5490 for more information.

July 1- Canada Day Weekend Celebrations. Participants at this festival will enjoy cake eating, family activities, live entertainment, and a visit from some special guests, cooking shows, theatre performances and our spectacular fireworks display at dusk. Beginning in July, St John's Stone Church on Carleton Street will feature performers as part of a Monday Music Series from 12:15 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. A free will offering will be accepted.

July 4 and 5 Saint John hosts their own Mardi Gras Festival. The boardwalk will be transformed into the French Quarter for a weekend of N'awlins fun! It's a festival "not-to-be-missed"!

July 10 to 12 check out the Salty Jam Music Festival. Downtown Market Square will be the official venue for this annual music extravaganza and all weekend long the air will be filled with the sounds of the coolest cats in the scene today.

July 18 to 20 it's the 18th annual Busker Festival on The Boardwalk. See side-splitting comedy, astounding physical feats and all-out crazy antics from performers the world over!

July 25 and July 26 celebrate the Maritime Kitchen Party on The Market Square Boardwalk with some great home cooking. And to guarantee the crowd will be in stitches, Jimmy Flynn will take the stage with his collection of jokes and gags.

The first annual Saint John Young Professionals Golf Tournament will be held July 25 at 12 noon at the Rockwood Park Golf Club, all are welcome to attend, call to participate and win prizes "" 633-4223.

Celebrate New Brunswick Day week August 1 to August 4. This festival provides everyone with a break to enjoy all the thrills of the beautiful season. The city of Saint John plans to celebrate the day by returning to their Celtic roots. Come and check it out.

August 8 and August 9 it's a Saint John fiesta like no other, Hola Mexican Fiesta. Enjoy entertainment, activities and vendors along the Boardwalk all weekend!

Check out the Fifth Annual Fundy Fog Festival from Aug 15 to August 16 and featuring some of Saint John's favourite bands, including Grand Theft Bus and the Jimmy Swift Band, as well as many others.

It's Country Weekend with the Divorcees starting Aug 22 and going until August 23. The Divorcees will kick the weekend off on Friday night at 8 p.m. and rock the Boardwalk 'country style'. Stop by one of our Boardwalk restaurants and let our cowboys and cowgirls serve up your favourite dishes and drinks!

Held at Renforth Wharf site, the fourth annual Saint John Dragon Boat Festival will be held August 23, with over 1,400 participants and thousands of spectators will be on hand for a full day of colourful dragon boat races. A host of local musicians, dancers and cultural performers will take turns entertaining the crowd. There will also be activities for the kid's and an international market place filled with exotic foods. Admission is free. This is a fundraising project of St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation. Marathon By the Sea Weekend from September 19 to September 21. On Saturday, bring the little ones out for their chance to compete in the Timbits Harbour Hustle. Sunday is the big race.
