Girlicious get down to business

With all the drama from their reality TV show behind them, the new girl group tours with the Backstreet Boys.

Girlicious, pop music's latest overnight sensation may not be your typical girl group like the Spice Girls that rocked the pop charts back in the late '90s along with the Backstreet Boys, but they're new and fresh and have a unique flare.
This brand new girl group, comprised of Tiffanie Anderson, Nichole Cordova, Natalie Mejia and Chrystina Sayers will be touring with the Backstreet Boys as the opening act all across North America. The tour begins this Wednesday in St. John's, Newfoundland, and then moves to Moncton on Friday and Halifax Saturday. So if you have tickets you'd better be prepared to be blown away not just by the notorious boy band, but also by this new girl group.
Chrystina Sayers, 20, from Girlicious is confident the group will shock the crowds with their performance.
"I think everyone will be surprised at our performance because we're doing six numbers back-to-back and most of the songs people haven't heard yet," she says. "It's made up of two slow songs and four fast ones, including our new single Stupid Shit."
This will be their first tour since their group was formed on the reality TV show The Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious and the girls feel honoured they're able to gain experience touring with the Backstreet Boys.
"They were the 'In the heat of the moment boy band'," Sayer says. "We grew up listening to them and N'Sync, so it's crazy that we're even going to be touring with them."
The girls hope to emerge from the tour, which runs from July 30 - September 6, as a stronger group of performers.
"We've already been onstage a few times, but I hope this will make us all wiser performers," says Sayer.
Sayer admitted if she had the option of going through the drama of competing on a reality TV show again she wouldn't want to deal with the craziness.
"I think I'd rather be in Robin Antin's position or even Ron Fair," she admits. "I'd just like to be a judge watching everything unwind."
If you watched the competitive reality show whose goal was to find the girl group, even once then you've witnessed first hand all the drama that happened, even between members of what became the group. However, surprisingly enough the girls have put their differences aside and now that it's no longer a competition they're all bonding.
"We're all very good friends," Sayer assures. "Of course we have our bickering, but when we have a problem with each other we get it out and resolve it right away. Most importantly we have lots of fun with each other. We're all pretty much the same type of girl so we have a lot in common."
Regardless of the drama, Sayer feels it was well worth the effort because the four of them now bond perfectly and perform well together.
"It was something that was meant to be and it's our time to shine. I know there are a lot of starving artists out there and we're just blessed it really did happen to us overnight," says Sayer.
After this tour the girls are unsure of what will be in store for them next, Sayer's hopeful they'll be going on another tour and gaining more experience. Their self-titled album is scheduled to hit stores August 12 and even though the girls didn't write the lyrics for the songs they're hoping to have enough time to write a few songs themselves on the next album.
"Tiffanie did write a few things for Natalie to rap on the album, but other than that we were so rushed we didn't have the time to write anything," she says. "But we have the best crew you could ever imagine to work with."
Sayer says the one word she would use to describe the group would be "Girlicious".
"I know it sounds cheesy, but for us that word just means being independent, sexy, fierce, and all the positive things a woman would say about herself. I think it's quickly becoming a catch phrase so we're definitely going to be promoting that."
For now the girls are embracing every new experience they encounter and are working their hardest to become a strong group.
"I want us to be one of those groups to have longevity and break lots of records," she says. "I believe we'll be a dominating girl group someday."
