Music on the Hill Series: Our 52nd series of concerts includes one of the oldest of instruments and the newest methods of playing classical instruments, music from the southern tip of South America to music composed right here in Fredericton, the soothing sound of classical guitar and the majestic sound of the French horn. The Canadian Song Book: Multi-Juno Award winners Murray McLauchlan and Barney Bentall have written some of Canada's most familiar classics, Catherine MacLellan and Nathan Rogers are the respective heirs of iconic Canadian troubadours Gene MacLellan and Stan Rogers, now making waves of their own on the international stage. 8 p.m. Fredericton Playhouse Theatre, 686 Queen Street.

Lecture and Book Signing: Joel Berg's All You Can Eat: How Hungry Is America? All You Can Eat reveals that hunger is a problem as American as apple pie, and shows what it is like when your income is not enough to cover rising housing and living costs and put food on the table. Berg takes to task politicians who remain inactive; the media, which ignores hunger except during holidays and hurricanes; and the food industry, which makes fattening, artery-clogging fast food more accessible to the nation's poor than healthy fare. Cinema Politica: Fredericton screens documentaries on Fridays at 7 p.m. at Conserver House, 180 St. John St., Fredericton. High on the Arts Gala: Enjoy an evening of song and dance, gourmet nibbles and good wine, plus an auction of excellent art by New Brunswick artists. Brigitte Clavette will auction the work of people like Judy Blake, Karen Burk, Stephen May, Deanna Musgrave, and many others. Funds raised will help support Art Trek. Sonic Concerts presents Marianas Trench: 2008 JUNO-nominated pop-punk band Marianas Trench will perform in support of their latest release Masterpiece Theatre. Special guests are The New Cities and Carly Rae Jepsen. Spotlight World Stage Series presents Uzume Taiko: Taiko has held a centuries-old place in Japanese culture, and it is from the power and athleticism of traditional drumming techniques that Uzume Taiko draws its inspiration. Using a diverse collection of percussive and melodic instruments, Uzume has developed a dynamic fusion of old and new styles of drumming - bringing a vibrant contemporary sensibility to an ancient art. With the choreographed physicality of martial arts, the heart-stopping pulse of the O-Daiko and the rhythmic sensitivity of a jazz ensemble, the drummers of Uzume Taiko create an exhilarating sensual experience. Fair Trade Gift Show and Sale: TAMMACHAT Natural Textiles, a fair trade social enterprise located in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, will host a fair trade gift show and sale. The group works exclusively with weavers in rural Thailand and Laos who produce hand woven, naturally dyed textiles of all sorts. There will also be an educational component consisting of a slideshow and talk. Event takes place at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre.

Fredericton Monday Night Film Series 09: The series presents limited release, independent foreign and Canadian films for one-night screenings, with the goal of diversifying local access to cinema. These films are new or recent releases, which would not otherwise be available to Fredericton audiences on the big screen. The film series is open to everyone. Regular admission is $7 per screening. Beaverbrook Art Gallery - The Beaverbrook Art Gallery presents Impressionist Masterworks from the National Gallery of Canada, an exhibition of ten masterworks, in recognition of the Gallery's 50th anniversary. Organized by the National Gallery of Canada, the exhibition will be on display from September 17 to January 4, 2010.

Gallery 78 - Gallery 78 is celebrating its 33rd anniversary with a group show: "THE EARLY YEARS". This exhibition features the work of select artists who exhibited at Gallery 78 in the early days at 78 Brunswick Street and includes well known names such as: Bruno Bobak, Molly Lamb Bobak, Marjory Donaldson, Anne Dunn, William Forrestall, Carol Fraser, Brigid Toole Grant, Pegi Nicol MacLeod, Stephen May, Dawn McCracken, David McKay, Joseph Plaskett, Stephen Scott and David Silverberg.
