Barenaked Ladies - Snacktime (Desperation Records/Warner Music Canada)
As a parent to an almost three-year-old boy, the days of cranking up my choice of tunes in the car is coming to an end, especially when he's a passenger. My wife and I have worn through our fair share of Sesame Street songs and were aching for something new and different to come along; enter Snacktime from Canada's Barenaked Ladies.
Truthfully, the songs are so well-crafted and immediately likeable, you sit and wonder why the band has only now released a record geared towards children. While the songs and their subjects might be a little above a three-year-old's comprehension, the music is friendly for kids of all ages and is sure to also be a hit with parents. The band's humour and wit is put to great use giving the record a light-hearted and entertaining feeling. Had enough of hearing The Wheels On The Bus for the zillionth time? Check out tracks like Crazy ABCs, 789, Raisins and I Don't Like and save yourself from humdrum of otherwise predictable children's music.
