Heavy finds love with pulled pork sandwich

Roux provides a great meal for The Two Fat Guys.

Roux Cuisine Louisianaise is located in the clubhouse of the Fox Creek Golf Club at 1109 Champlain Street in Dieppe. The restaurant, which specializes in Louisiana cuisine, has a wide variety of menu items for lunch and supper. For more information, call 859-4653. The Two Fat Guys visited Roux for a recent weekday lunch.
Husky E's verdict:
I felt a little underdressed as soon as walked through the entrance of Roux, the restaurant located in the clubhouse of Dieppe's Fox Creek Golf Club.
Not that this restaurant is really fancy - okay, it's definitely higher class than what we're used to visiting - but I think I was the only customer in jeans and a hoodie. Even normally slobby Heavy looked somewhat presentable on this day.
The first thing I noticed when I sat down was the impressive view of Fox Creek's beautiful golf course. Our seat gave us a great look of the ninth hole, and while there was no one on the course on a cold October day, it sure would be interesting to come back during golf season and see how golfers tackle the challenging layout.
But now, on to what we came for: The food.
Roux offers a variety of Louisiana-inspired dishes, and there's a lot to choose from on this menu. I didn't know where to start.
Our waiter highlighted a rotisserie chicken lunch special ($9.95). And even though Roux was all out of chicken breasts and only had legs "" surprising since it was only noon "" I took him up on it.
Heavy T took care of the appetizers and ordered us up one pound of Baton Rouge ragin' Cajun chicken wings ($10.99). I like my wings more mild than hot, so maybe that's why I wasn't a big fan of these wings. They came in a pretty spicy sauce and there wasn't nearly as much meat on them as can be found at many other restaurants. Though I've been told that Roux's other types of wings are delicious, I feel you can probably do better elsewhere, especially at this price. We'll blame this one on Heavy.
Up next was the main dish - the rotisserie chicken meal that came with French fries, Bourbon Street cornbread, coleslaw and dipping sauce.
The chicken was succulent. Filled with juicy and tender white meat. So good that I was disappointed this meal didn't come with two legs, instead of just one. Or maybe chicken breast. I could have ate much more.
The French fries were also very good; they were hot, seemed very fresh and came in a good size portion. They were a perfect match for the dipping sauce, which was similar to what you receive at St-Hubert or Swiss Chalet, but was different with its own taste.
I didn't enjoy the cornbread as much. I would much rather prefer a roll, but each to their own. The coleslaw was okay.
We didn't have time for dessert on this day and I wasn't completely full off this meal when we left. Never a good sign for a Fat Guy.
All in all, it was an enjoyable meal with a few disappointments. I'll probably be back again. I give Roux an 8 out of 10.
Heavy T's Verdict:
I had never really heard of this place before, but I'm glad I know about it now.
As Husky mentioned, you don't have to show up in a three-piece suit, but you might want to avoid ratty sweatpants when you head to Roux. The bathroom especially is fancy. Yeah, I was impressed by the bathroom, so what?
The service was quite quick and friendly and there is a lot on this menu, from more affordable items you could find in many restaurants to things a little more upscale. Husky already pretty much covered it on the wings. I thought they were okay, but nothing special. I'm not a wuss though, so the heat of the sauce didn't bother me at all.
The true fatty that I am, I went for a pulled pork sandwich ($10.89). I'm a sucker for pulled pork and despite the variety on the menu, as soon as I saw that there was no turning back. I was a fatty on a mission.
The sandwich was described as being tender slow roasted pulled pork, topped with Texas Apple Bold sauce and melted mozza.
I must say, I didn't know what Texas Apple Bold sauce was before, but if it was the small dish of orange-ish sauce they brought "¦ Yum! It had a nice sweet zing to it that went perfectly with the pulled pork. The melted mozza was another great touch on the sandwich that you don't see at other places. Melted cheese on pretty much anything is a winner and it definitely added another great fusion of tastes to this sandwich.
I know this wasn't the classiest menu item and I'm sure their head chef makes some great fine dining too, but this sandwich was delicious. So good that it's about all I can think about right now and it's making me want to get back to that restaurant as soon as possible.
The meal came with a side of fries and they were good, but nothing extraordinary.
This was the best meal I've had in a long while, I give Roux a 9.5 out of 10.

Po boys...oysters...etoufee! Do they have fried clam poboys???
I have seen their website - last time was back in the Spring. But a few minutes of googling doesn't show it. As I recall it was less than intuitive. I can't find it now - not sure if I'm not looking in the right spot or it's gone.
