Enjoying the art (and food) at Graffiti

The Two Fat Guys enjoy some Mediterranean satisfaction.

Graffiti is located at 897 Main Street. It's a Mediterranean restaurant offering up lunch and dinner from Moncton's downtown. For hours and more information, call 857-8938.
HEAVY T's Verdict:
Graffiti is a unique little spot in Moncton's downtown that offers up Mediterranean cuisine in a warm and comforting environment. Husky and I stood in the doorway like goons for a few minutes before a waitress eventually told us to sit wherever we wanted. Other than that little moment of embarrassment (which can't be blamed on the staff either, they just didn't notice us) the service was excellent.
I'll say off the top that Mediterranean isn't exactly my favourite type of food "" give me barbeque, Chinese, Indian, or straight up grease food over that any day. That being said, the fact that Graffiti would end up leaving me satisfied is even more impressive.
I ordered fried cheese as an appetizer, which was imported Camembert cheese breaded and lightly fried, served with smoked tomato sauce ($6.75).
Not sure why I was drawn to this (perhaps the word fried?), but it was delicious. The cheese had a very strong taste to it, but it was well offset by the more traditionally tasting tomato sauce. A good start to the meal.
For the main course I ordered the Athenian sampler ($14.95), which was a combination of chicken, pork and gyro shish kebabs served with vegetables, rice, Greek Salad and seasoned potatoes.
When the meal came out, I was wondering how I was going to eat it all. The plate was piled high with generous portions of food. I quickly remembered the Fatty Code to leave no plate unfinished though, and got to work eating this masterpiece.
The shish kebabs were good and satisfying with flavoured pieces of meat complimenting the roasted vegetables. I was in a way expecting the kebabs to be bigger, but as I said already, the overall portion was great, so nothing too major here. The rice wasn't anything to rave about, but tasted quite good with the tziki sauce which accompanied the meal. The Greek salad was big and tasty, with big pieces of onion and lots of feta cheese.
Like a warrior, I polished off the meal with nary a scrap of food left on the plate. Mediterranean still won't become one of my favourite types of food, but if I'm in the mood, I'm definitely going to Graffiti.
I give the restaurant an 8/10.
HUSKY E's Verdict:
The atmosphere in the restaurant was great. The best word to describe it is quaint. It kind of made me feel like I was on a vacation somewhere a bit exotic. I also like to have something pretty to look at while I eat, and seeing as Heavy T doesn't exactly fit the bill, the art on the walls provided some nice scenery.
To drink, I ordered my usual iced tea ($3.25). It was served in a nice tall glass and was garnished delightfully. It tasted like real brewed tea, not the sugary pre-made mix most restaurants serve.
Graffiti may be a few dollars more than my regular restaurants, but the little extra touches like this make it worth it.
For my lunch, I had the lemon dill salmon. It came with basmati rice and a house salad. The salmon was served with lemon dill butter melting over the top of it, which was just the right combination of buttery goodness and seasonings for this Fat Guy.
I found the rice to be rather bland, but the salad was quite good. I'm not a huge fan of salads in general (too many green things for my taste), but this one was a pretty good way to get my serving of vegetables for the day. Alright, I know you're supposed to have more than one serving of vegetables each day, but cut me some slack here.
I also tried some of Heavy's Fried Cheese when he went to the bathroom (rookie mistake, NEVER go to the bathroom when there is food on the table!). The fried cheese was terrific, a definite must try for those who ... like cheese? Like good food? Let's just say it's quite good.
Our server was very pleasant. It was just my kind of service "" polite, timely and not too over-involved. The entire experience was enjoyable. Quite a few of the appetizers on the menu caught my eye, and I think I'll be going back to sample a few of those and maybe even give their desserts a try.
I give Graffiti an 8.5/10
