If dining in the tri-cities showed any single unifying theme, it would have been - paradoxically-diversity. It finally seems as if the cities are becoming a little more adventurous in their food tastes and moving away from just beer 'n' burger joints (not that there's anything wrong with those, either). This year saw an influx of new, ethnic restaurants in all three cities, a welcome trend to be sure.
Saint John
Opera Bistro
The high-end fusion food resto continues to set the bar for fine food in the Port City.
The Saint John Alehouse
The menu includes buttermilk fried chicken and chocolate Guinness cake with whiskey caramel.
The Urban Deli
Their motto is "old fashioned, slightly sophisticated": comfort foods like triple decker grilled cheese and mac n'cheese.
Alley Gria Tapas Bar & Lounge
This Spanish-style tapas bar is bursting with small plates of goodness like oysters baked with tomato stew and garlic lemon sabayon.
Moncton
Red Satay
This Vietnamese restaurant hasn't lost its sizzle. With affordable, fast options, Red Satay is a main feature on the city's cultural cuisine menu.
Green Dragon
Sushi fans rejoiced when this little sushi bar opened in Dolma Foods. Theirs is a young, fresh approach to Japanese, worthy of repeat visits.
The Old Triangle
Easily downtown's best staple spot to grab a bite. Their kitchen adds a little Irish flavour to hearty dishes made for pairing with Guinness.
Isac Korean Cuisine
This quaint eatery serves up a taste of Korean cuisine: sesame oil, garlic, red peppers and sizzling meat.
Fredericton
Chez Riz
This authentic Indian/Pakistani restaurant opens on weekend nights so you can fill up on delicious samosas and shwarma after the bar.
M&T Deli
This lunch spot has moved to an expanded location. Gaze at walls of art while eating a sandwich packed sky high with fresh veggies and meat.
Isaac's Way
The downtown resto's brunch menu is unrivalled, and the funky, laid-back atmosphere can't be beat.
Garrison Alehouse
A solid menu of elevated pub fare and creative lunch specials, come for the scrumptious poutine, stay for the extensive beer list.
