The Two Fat Guys enjoy an OK meal

The Two Fat Guys head to Riverview's Fox and Hound.
The Fox and Hound Neighbourhood Pub is located at 720 Coverdale Rd. in what used to be the Riverview Mall. For more information on the pub's menu or hours of operation, please call 387-2883.
The Fat Guy's verdict:
Getting down Coverdale Rd. at 5:30 p.m. is no easy business, busy as all get out. Fatty and I were stuck in traffic for a bit, which sort of blew my mind because, well because, it's RIVERVIEW! They aren't supposed to have traffic jams, but lo and behold they do.
Walking into the Fox and Hound is a bit of a trip down memory lane for me, I remember trying to sneak into the Fox for a beer in my high school years. I think it's the protocol of the young to try to buck the system, even if it proves mission impossible.
It's a lot nicer in there than I remembered. I haven't been to the Fox I don't think since they kicked me out a long time past for a poor karaoke performance.
It was that bad.
Anyway, back to the menu. It's as expected spectacularly greasy food that's normally on offer in a pub. It's to soak up that hangover before it happens. So we order the Fox platter, a mixed plate of appetizers (no price for our readers this week because none were written on our receipts) to please myself and Fatty because we couldn't decide on just one. It arrives -- deep fried breaded wings, fried pepperoni, deep fried mushrooms, and onion rings with ranch dip, hot sauce and mustard, served on a bed of plain tacos?!
I just want to say, the onion rings were fabulous. We should have just ordered onion rings! I wasn't a fan of anything else in the platter.
Then I ordered fish and chips (again I don't know the price on this one, but my messy secretive notes look like they say $8.95, so it's likely around there). The french fries were pretty good, but the fish was damn fine. It was the biggest order of fish I've ever received outside of Shediac. And it was real fish to boot!
The service was fine and the food was OK. I might check it out in the future for breakfast, which rumour has it is fabulous, but I won't be returning for after work fare. Overall I give The Fox 6/10. There's nothing really wrong, but nothing incredibly right.
Fatter Guy's verdict:
We figured we've eaten in downtown Moncton lots lately so we decided this week to switch things up and head to Riverview's Fox and Hound located in what used to be the Riverview Mall...not too sure what we're supposed to call it now...perhaps call centre strip? Anyhoo there we were.
It was supper and I was hungry. I also longed to head to a movie for a toonie"¦sigh. How change affects us all.
Our server was great and gave us all the time we needed to order. We ordered the Fox platter to start, which was a mix of plain nachos, (I was kind of disappointed, I thought they'd be the non-plain variety) onion rings, deep fried pepperoni, deep fried mushrooms and wings. I enjoyed everything in the Fox platter but the fried pepperoni, and was a big fan of the fried mushrooms...I could have had an order (or two) of them all to myself. The Fox platter, which I'm sure Fatty numero uno already said we don't know the price for since prices weren't listed on our receipts, was likely somewhere around $12.95.
For my main course I ordered the Fox burger, which I think was $8.95. In the menu's description of the Fox burger, it told me there was BBQ sauce on a double pattied burger along with some regular fixin's...I was asked if I wanted the works, and assumed it was just the stuff in the description. So I said yes only to have it arrive with mustard (blech) and ketchup on top of the burger, drowning my poor pickle. So I took all that off, and thought 'my fault for not asking what the works was', and opened wide.
I can't say I really enjoyed my burger, the BBQ sauce just wasn't the type of BBQ sauce I like. Though a friend was with us, and she absolutely loved it.
There wasn't anything wrong with the way it was cooked and the fries that came with it were good too. I just prefer a tangier BBQ sauce, call it a taste issue.
For serving up an OK meal, I give the Fox and Hound an OK score of 6/10. I will be back for breakfast though as their eggs Benedict is one of my favourites, I'd give that at least a 9!
